About the event
Join the NKY Forum as we explore the problems, causes, and solutions behind teen homelessness in our region. Housing insecurity has consequences on a teen’s ability to study, to focus, and to succeed after graduation. Congress, recognizing the large scope of the problem, passed legislation in the McKinney-Vento Act that requires schools to identify housing insecurity in its students and provide resources to remove barriers for them in gaining an education.
The discussion will begin at 9 am on October 24, Tuesday. Attendance is both in-person at the Newport Branch of the Campbell County Public Library (901 East Sixth Street, Newport) or virtually via Zoom. Please register here.
Our panel includes Jay Brewer, Superintendent for Dayton Independent Schools; Kate Kassis, Director of Youth Services for the Brighton Center; and Alania Kaiser, McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Coordinator at Campbell County High School.
The NKY Forum is a nonpartisan collaboration of NKU’s Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement and the public library districts of Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties. Its purpose is to focus on public affairs and to foster civil, civic dialogue.
